Namatay sa selfie! Filipina hiker falls to death in HK

A Filipina hiker fell to her death down a waterfall while taking a selfie in a country park in Hong Kong last April 5, Friday.

Initial reports said the incident involving the 26-year-old Filipina occurred before noon of Friday at Tai Mo Shan Country Park in Tai Po.

Police said their initial check showed the Filipina had worked as a customer service officer in a call center of a finance company.

Investigation showed the victim went hiking with her younger sister and four friends during the Ching Ming Festival.

Upon reaching Ng Tung Chai Waterfall, her friends heard a loud noise and saw she had fallen 15 meters to the water below.

Ng Tung Chai Waterfall is on one of the hiking routes listed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and is rated “difficult.”

The Filipina was airlifted to Tuen Mun Hospital, but was declared dead at 1:31 p.m.

Records from the HK fire department showed three hikers died while 21 were injured in Hong Kong in the first three months of 2019.
