A Filipina domestic helper was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail in Singapore for stealing some S$5,000 (about P191,573) from her employer.
Singapore authorities found the money hidden inside the private parts of Bajo Nelgielyn Bobita, 28, during a body check at Changi Women’s Prison.
Court records showed Bobita took the money from trader Lee See Boon, 69, in his Serangoon flat (https://www.thestar.com.my/news/regional/2019/05/09/maid-who-stole-from-singaporean-employer-found-with-money-hidden-in-private-parts/).
She was performing her chores last Feb. 22 when she went to her employer’s room to search for valuables. She found a bag containing the key to the safe, and a piece of paper with the combination to it.
This allowed her to unlock the safe and take S%3,000, then remitted S$1,500 of the money to her family in the Philippines on Feb. 24. She remitted the rest on March 3.
After that, she stole another S$5,002 (RM15,230) from the safe in early March. But Lee, who opened the safe later that day, noticed the money was missing.
He alerted the police, who arrested Bobita and brought her to Changi Women’s Prison after she was charged in court on March 8.
A body scanning process showed a foreign object hidden inside her genitals. It turned out to be a small plastic bag containing the stolen S$5,002.
