On Jan. 26, some 750 Japanese tourists will arrive in Iloilo City on board a cruise ship, to witness the world-famous Dinagyang Festival.
City tourism operations officer Florence King Erlano said the MV Pacific Venus will dock at the Iloilo International Container Port early morning.
He said the tourists are to take part in two days of festivities.
While celebrations for Dinagyang started this weekend, the highlight of the festival is on Jan. 25 to 27.
Department of Tourism 6 Regional Director Helen Catalbas added the visit means Iloilo has met the high standards of Japanese tourists.
Catalbas noted cruise executives of MV Pacific Venus visited the city last June to inspect facilities such as banks, hospitals, hotels, malls, and shopping centers.
“During the inspection they were impressed that is why they decided to push through with the cruise ship arrival in January,” she said.
